"Is high end always better? High end vs high street/drugstore"
In my blog post today, I'm going to be looking at a number of high end products, along with high street or drugstore alternatives and comparing the two to see which comes out at the top.
Some of the products I use, especially foundation and moisturiser, I think by spending more money, the product you receive it better quality, but this is not always the case.
Maybelline Colour Tattoo | Boots | £4.99
MAC Prolongwear Paint Pot | MAC | £15
WINNER - Maybelline Colour Tattoo. I really can't tell the difference between the two!
Superdrug Hydrating Vitamin E Moisture Mask | Superdrug | Under £3 (can't locate online)
Origins Drink Up 10 Minute Mask | Boots | £22
WINNER - These two are on par really as I both feel they do the same job. The Origins is slightly ahead because of the amazing scent and the nicer texture, but price wise, the Superdrug own brand would win.
Boots Clean off Nail Polish Remover | Boots | £1.30
Cutex Ultra Cleansing Nail Polish Remover | Superdrug | £2.15
WINNER - The Cutex is the winner all the way. The Boots own brand smells awful, it's that bad that I have to thrown my cotton wool in the dustbin outside because it overpowers the whole house! The Cutex also works so much more efficiently and doesn't leave nail polish residue all over my fingers like the Boots one.
Lacura Nourishing Hand Cream | Aldi | £0.75
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Xerand Hand Cream | Escentual | £4.50
WINNER - For 75p, the Aldi option is really good. But seeing the state of my hands at the moment, only the richest hand cream will do which is aimed at people with severely dry skin. I still love the Aldi one and will repurchase in the spring/summer months when my hands are not as dry. During the winter, the La Roche-Posay Lipikar Xerand Hand Cream wins.
Nivea Double Effect Eye Makeup Remover | Boots | £3.59
Clinique Take the Day Off Makeup Remover | Boots | £17
WINNER - Clinique all the way for me! It might be more expensive, but it does an amazing job. You can read my full review here.
Botanics Cleansing All Bright Toner | Boots | £3.99
Aveda Botanical Kinetics Exfoliant | Aveda | £17
WINNER - Botanics is the winner here. Against each other, they both contain alcohol the Aveda contains Salicylic Acid, but the Botanics contains natural AHA's and both are designed to brighten the skin and remove dull surface cells. I can't say I've noticed a huge difference to my skin when using either, but they both do a good job of removing excess cleanser on my skin and helping to shift dry skin. The only reason the Botanics wins is because of the price.
Summing up, you can see that there's a selection of higher end preferred and drugstore preferred. A lot of it is down to personal preference though and what works best for you. I do think sometimes, I opt for high end over drugstore because of the luxury aspect; I feel like I'm really pampering and treating myself with a high end product, but with a drugstore brand, it doesn't feel as nice and as luxury.
